Movin' Out

We've been busy this week moving out of our apartment (and into my Mom's house). Tom and I got the last of our stuff out at 10:30 tonight. Ugh. I am tired of moving around and I want to be back home but I really can't complain when there are so many people left with nothing after the hurricane. We were watching MSNBC tonight and it just seems unreal that something like this can happen in the United States. It's just all very sad.

Summer Swim

Yesterday we went to an "end of summer" BBQ at my cousin Danielle's house. She has a hot tub so Patrick had the chance to play in the (lukewarm) hot tub with his cousins. He had a blast!

Today we went to the Palo Alto Art & Wine Festival. It's pretty hard to take Patrick out anywhere since he won't ride in his stroller (he can easily get out of the 5 point harness) so today Tom packed him in the Kelty backpack. Somehow Patrick figured out how to get out of the straps on that one (we figured that out as he started crawling up Tom's back and was halfway out the side). He justs wants to walk all the time but he doesn't ever seem to want to go in the same direction as we do. Here's Patrick taking a quick break today to share a snack with Mom.

Say, Say Oh Playmate

I just have a bunch of random pictures today...

Yesterday Patrick had a playdate with his friend Ben at the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose. The museum has a new exhibit specifically for infants and toddlers and Patrick and Ben had a blast. They ran around and touched just about everything.

Patrick enjoyed a tea party for one...

And by 1 pm we had two extremely tired little ones...

Patrick was in a goofy mood today. He played with the dishwasher for a good 30 minutes this afternoon. We don't bother to lock the dishwasher anymore because he can undo it so easily.

Tom brought home some flowers for me today, Patrick loved "sniffing" them.

And finally, tonight before bed we read a few books including Peekaboo Kisses. Patrick now kisses the animal on each page, here is is kissing the sheep.

Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys

A few weeks ago I bought Patrick some adorable cowboy boot slippers. Of course it is still too early for slippers but tonight I was packing some things up (to move back into the house soon!) and found them and put them on Patrick to see what he thought. He absolutely loved them, and cried when Tom took them off to put on his pajamas. He was standing in his PJs, crying, and holding up the slippers so we would put them back on him. So we put them on over his footed PJs. Check out this styling baby.

As I type this, Patrick is sound asleep with warm tootsies!

Goodnight Sweetheart

We've hit a HUGE sleep milestone. Patrick was never a good sleeper, he didn't start sleeping through the night until he was a year old. He doesn't sleep a whole lot (maybe a total of 12 hours per day including a nap). Lately he's been waking up before 6 am. So what is this big milestone? Patrick can finally put himself to sleep. We used to (mostly Tom used to) walk him or rock him to sleep every night and it sometimes took an hour. Now we can lay him down in his crib and he is out within 2 minutes. He fusses a little but doesn't really cry. I guess it helps to have Elmo with you.

Last Thursday Patrick and I met Monica, Malia and Makaio at Oakridge Mall for a playdate and lunch. Monica is one of my very bestest friends in the whole world and she is moving next weekend to San Luis Obispo. I am very sad for me, but happy for Monica and Matt cause they will be so close to their parents and building the house of their dreams. Monica and I have been friends since college and I am going to miss her very, very much. So Thursday was bittersweet. I cried on the drive home from the mall. We had a great day though, and Patrick even took his first carousel ride.

This weekend was fairly relaxed. Even Patrick had time to kick back.

Something To Talk About

Patrick seems to have hit the 18-month "language explosion" a little early. It seems like he is learning a new word every day. Yesterday his new word was "mailman", my Mom taught his this when they were playing with my old Little People sets. The Little People mailman looks just like this...

So yesterday afternoon Patrick had a playdate at the park with his friend Calvin. Calvin was wearing a little hat and Patrick to one look at Calvin, pointed to him and loudly proclaimed "mailman!". Close, but no cigar. Calvin wasn't even wearing grey.

Patrick's new word for today was "bird poo". Don't even ask how he learned that one.

Here's a few more house pictures. The tile will be done tomorrow. The floor is in but still needs to be grouted.

The shower is just about done, it just needs a little more grout.

The front porch is being built. I guess the city won't let us just keep the plank we had going up to the front door :)

Baby You Can Drive My Car

Patrick is obsessed with cars. He loves almost everything about them, with the exception of actually riding in his car seat. When we are out walking or driving he will point out every car to me, shouting out "Car! Car! Car!" as each one passes by. Today Patrick had a chance to test drive a Cozy Coupe at his friend Jo Ann's house. His kind buddy Sydney pushed him around in it. He would have happily sat in that car all afternoon. Grandparents and Godparents take note - Patrick would really love a Cozy Coupe of his own.

Patrick wanted me to mention that he would also be happy with a real car.

On the house side, the tile is going in this week. We put white subway tiles in for the kitchen backsplash, I love the way they look. The last little bit of trim is going on the cabinets and then we're ready for painting!

Mr. Telephone Man

My internet connection has been really spotty. I guess the people I steal wireless from need to get their act together because the signals I've been getting are weak. Plus Patrick got a black eye last week so I haven't had any pictures I want to share with the world. Trust me, Patrick got off easy. You should have seen the other baby.*

*Actually, Patrick fell. Do not call the authorities, there was no baby fight.

In The Kitchen

We have kitchen counters! I was soooo excited to see these installed today. We did a honed black granite in the kitchen and a polished cream marble in the bathroom. Our cooktop was also in. I love, love, love the way the granite looks in the kitchen. You can also see the mouldings going up in the background. All of the cabinets will be painted white.

My Mom and I took Patrick to Ikea today. I had only been to one once, very briefly, about 10 or 12 years ago. My Mom had never been. It was really rather interesting. We spent two hours there and we still skipped over a lot of stuff. The store is set up to be very toddler friendly and it has a few different play areas for little ones. Patrick particularly enjoyed the baby ball pit. Too bad I didn't have my camera :(

Slide Away

Patrick had a playdate at the park today with his buddy Calvin and went down the slide all by himself! I'm not sure what they do to the slide at the Fairmont Playground to make it so full of static, maybe it helps the babies stick to the slide?

Later Patrick helped prepare dinner. And by "helped" I mean he ate olives.
