Ready To Go

I actually made it through everything on my calendar! Friday afternoon I got my manicure and pedicuyre, and on Friday night we went to a beautiful birthday party for my great Aunt Bea who had a milestone birthday. On Saturday Patrick's friend Calvin had his 3rd birthday party. We spent Saturday afternoon buying a few last minute baby things and stocking up on convenience items at Costco to get us through the next month. Baby laundry is done, there are clean sheets and towels in the house, my suitcase is packed and I am ready to go. Tomorrow I go into the hospital for an anethesia consult and some bloodwork. Then bright and early on Tuesday we'll be meeting our new daughter! It's sort of surreal to think that she'll be here in less than 36 hours. So please think positive thoughts for us on Tuesday!

I'm Still Standing

Still here. Still pregnant. That is all.

Waiting

So I'm at the point now where the phone calls have started. People calling innocently enough "just to check on me" with questions like "How are you? Any news?". Well I'm still pregnant! And other than being super tired and a little immobile I'm feeling OK. Tomorrow I have an appointment for a manicure and a pedicure, I will be ticked if I go into labor before then ;)

(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear

I'm a little late in posting these, but on Monday Patrick had a birthday party for his playgroup friends at Build A Bear. The kids were all VERY cute and seemed excited to pick out their animals and dress them up. Patrick chose a dog but did not want him to wear any clothes, rather he wanted him to ride on a skateboard. Turns out HE wanted to ride the skateboard, even since we got home he's been insisting it is his and he wants to ride it in the kitchen. I don't think so.

And guess what? I'm still pregnant! :P Only a few more days until my c-section. No one thinks I am going to make it that long except my doctor. He said that the baby dropping is no indication of when she will arrive. Well it sure feels like it should be!

Baby Girl

I am so absolutely and completely done being pregnant. But my c-section isn't scheduled for 11.5 more days (and yes, that half a day is important!). I've been having frequent, mostly painless Braxton Hicks contractions for the last few weeks. I am pretty sure the baby is trying to make an exit straight through my abdominal wall with vigorous karate kicks. And she's dropped, which Patrick never did, which is a rather uncomfortable sensation. The only time I'm really comfortable is lying on my side, which isn't really possible with an almost 3 year old. We have places to go and things to see, today included lunch out with friends (which included a toddler version of a bar brawl complete with stool throwing), several errands downtown, and a birthday party in the afternoon. I am exhausted.

And speaking of almost 3 year olds, notice my ticker up above. Tomorrow is Patrick's big birthday! We're starting out the day with a tour of a local fire station with our playgroup. Patrick should be quite pleased. Tomorrow night we're having family over for pizza, and then on Monday morning he has a birthday party with his little friends. I just need to make it until Monday afternoon and then I am golden to have this baby.

Are You Ready?

I have a pregnancy calendar on my My Yahoo! page, it gives me a little message every day about how the baby is developing. Today the message was this:

"Congratulations! Your pregnancy is officially full-term. The baby can arrive any day now."

Um, no she can't. I'm not ready. Must get back to work. Sigh.

Happy Birthday To Me

I'm 34 today, which is suprising because I still feel like I am 16 sometimes (but with a husband, a child, a mortgage and a cooler car). I'm officially in my "mid-thirties" and just one year away from that dreaded 35-49 age category. How did that happen? I suppose time will keep flying by and before I know it Patrick will be 34. It's sad and exciting at the same time.

I had a lovely day, Tom took us all out to dinner at La Fondue, my birthday favorite. Nana, Papa, Uncle Nick and Leah all came and we all stuffed ourselves with yummy fondue. Patrick was not really impressed but managed to make a meal that mostly consisted of bread and marshmallows. And in just 2 weeks it will be his big day! April is proving to be a very busy month, we have 5 birthday parties on the schedule before this baby is due, I'm really hoping she's able to hold out until the 24th as our schedule is rather busy until then!

I've been been busy working on the nursery, today we got the crib bedding out and the curtains up. Here's a sneal peek at the crib, if I am as paranoid with this one as I was with Patrick the bumper will be taken off before she ever sleep in it, ha ha.

Mr. Trumpet Man

Tom taught Patrick to play the trumpet this weekend. He only knows how to play a B flat but he has him embouchure down! Check out this little video, Aunties Amanda and Jamie should be proud!

Other updates: my burn is healing but still fairly raw, it took 2 doctor visits last week to get the right combo of antibiotic creams. Baby is still very active and kicking, less than a month to go! The crown moulding is up and painted in baby's room, now we just need to get the bedding washed and in place, order the blinds, and hang the curtains.

Springtime Is The Season

It seems that birthday season has hit our house! This past weekend was the third weekend in a row that we've had a birthday party, this one was for my Aunt Denise's milestone birthday (I will be nice and not post it!). We had a lovely lunch out and Patrick especially enjoyed the olives!

This weekend we have a break from parties but we'll be having a traditional St. Patrick's Day corned beef and cabbage dinner. When I was growing up we always had this on St. Patrick's Day, along with green milk. Though I don't particularly care for corned beef (and I definitely don't care for boiled cabbage!) it's a tradition I want to keep with Patrick, especially since the day has special meaning with his name. The weekend after next starts up the parties again, with cousins Vincent and Brandie, then mine on the following weekend, then a break for Easter, followed by Patrick's birthday, and 11 days later the birth of this baby! I scheduled my c-section for April 24 and I'm excited to have an end in sight!

Ready Or Not Here I Come

Just like Patrick did, this baby gave us an early scare. I was having fairly regular contractions yesterday along with severe nausea so my doctor wanted me to go to labor & delivery to get checked out. TMI warning..... In the car I started vomiting and was feeling rather ill by the time I got hooked up to get checked out. My contractions were consistent enough that I was given some nasty drugs to stop it. And I was way dehydrated so I was given a few liters of liquid in an IV (another TMI warning, I promptly vomited again after getting the liquids). Confident that I wasn't in labor my doctor sent me home to get some rest. So now I'm on some anti-nausea medication that make me feel very drunk. I'm still feeling a little punk I managed to keep down some toast and applesauce today. Patrick spent the night at Nana and Papa's last night and today they took him to the zoo. He was very concerned about me and kept telling them stories about me getting sick in the car. Isn't it nice what boys focus on? ;)

Sneak A Peek

On a whim this weekend I scheduled a 3D/4D ultrasound for fun. My appointment was tonight and the baby was not so cooperative, she was in an odd position and kept waving her hands in front of her face. The ultrasound tech was super nice about it and spent a lot of time with me trying to get the baby to move. We did finally end up getting some face shots. It was a sort of strange experience, the baby has chubby cheeks and I don't really think she looks like Patrick did at birth. It will be interesting to compare pictures when she arrives. And she is definitely still a girl!

In other news, we had a productive weekend. We took Patrick to Build A Bear on Friday night to make a bear for his baby sister. He's very excited to bring it to her in the hospital when she is born. Tom is working on his "honey do" list and spent the weekend putting a new closet system in Patrick's closet and putting up crown moulding in the baby's room. We still have a ton of work to do in her room (I'm not really sure why I say "we", I'm mostly shopping and supervising, lol!). Hopefully it will be ready before she gets here!

And make sure you get your name suggestions in. My friend Allison put in a lovely list of suggestions!

Say My Name

We have yet to decide on a name for this baby. I freaked out today when I realized we have about 50 days until she arrives. And it isn't like we have some top contenders. We have nothing. So I am opening this up for you all to throw out your ideas. Leave a comment and let us know your names. My only rule is no cre8ive spellings :)

Bad Attitude

The terrible 2s seem to have hit full force in the last month or so. When Patrick turned 2 in April I kept thinking "This isn't so bad!". And it really wasn't for the first 6 or 7 month. But someone must have clued him in on the fact that he is supposed to act like an irrational little person. Don't want to get in the car? Scream and arch your back so mommy can't get you in your car seat! Tired of Target? Throw yourself down on the floor and scream so mommy scoops you up and leaves! Don't want to leave the house? Refuse to get dressed! Not getting your way? Punish mommy by slamming furniture into the walls!

Sigh.

And now the attitude has started. We were getting ready to go to the grocery store today and I asked Patrick to sit down so I could put his shoes on. His response? "No way!" shouted over and over and over again. I hear from friends it only gets worse when they turn 3. Somedays I think I may move to Australia. But then he does something completely adorable like insisting we use the phone to call his baby sister. I tried explaining that it wouldn't work but he insisted it would. I finally called Tom on his call phone so Patrick could "talk" to his sister. He kept asking "Whatcha doin' in there?" to which baby sister responsed "I'm growing!". Patrick has decided he wants to call her every night before bed. How cute is that?

Take The Pain Away

Yesterday I had two doctor appointments, including another ultrasound and this baby is definitely a girl (two ultrasound techs and a radiologist declaring it makes it so, right?). Everything looks good and baby is healthy, so that was the good news. However, yesterday evening I developed a severe pain in my ear, and of course the pain hadn't been there when I was at the doctor's office. It finally go so bad I was threatening to stick an ice pick in my ear to make it stop. So Tom sent me off to the emergency room where I was found to have a raging ear infection (and a bonus upper respiratory infection). Since I'm pregnant, they took me in right away, even though it had nothing to do with the baby. I'm now on a course of antibiotics but they couldn't give me anything for the pain other than an ear drop that is supposed to help (it doesn't). The doctor said it takes 2-48 hours for the antibiotics to kick in and the pain to subside. I am completely miserable right now, my ear is throbbing in pain, I can't hear out of it, and there is a constant ringing in it. Now I understand why little kids get so miserable with ear infections, it hurts! I would rank it right up there with being in labor.

Patrick knows I haven't been feeling well. He's been so sweet in offering up suggestions to help me. First he offered me some imaginary soup to make me feel better. Then he gave me a kiss on my owie. And finally he suggested we try a band aid, that should make me feel better. Awwwww :)

Pretty In Pink

It's a girl!

And a funny little story, when the ultrasound tech was doing the scan, she said "and I see three lines right there" so I said "Oh my gosh, a girl!" and I went on and on about how now we need to decide on a name and blah blah blah about how I had a dream last night that it was a boy and clearly my intuition was off blah blah blah. Tom must not have been paying attention because 10 minute later as we were getting up to leave he said "Wow, imagine two little boys in the house!". The tech and I looked at each other like and "what the heck?". I said "Tom, it's a girl". He assumed 3 lines was boy bits, not girl bits and now I have confirmation that he really does not listen to me!

The Name Game

Patrick has decided that this baby is a girl (the big ultrasound isn't until December 7th). Today we were quizzing him on what we thought we should name the baby. His choices? Witch, followed by Butteryfly and Baby Mama. Um.....okay.....
