Old School

It was a HUGE day in our house, Patrick started kindergarten today! As far as I can tell, I was the only parent sobbing at drop off. Thankfully I had some lovely oversized sunglasses to hide my tears. Patrick was so excited. He loved it, proclaiming that he was happy there was "no math" and that his favorite part of the day was "recess". How is it possible that my little guy is off to big kid school?

Molly's also growing up quickly, she's dangerously close to being potty trained and is showing interest in sleeping in her big girl bed. My babies are growing up and there's nothing I can do to stop it. Hold me!

Walk On By

It's official: Miss Molly is walking! She spent about an hour before bedtime practicing going back and forth across the family room. Patrick is her biggest cheerleader. It's all just too cute.

Booty Scoot

Despite my best attempts to delay the inevitable, Molly is officially on the move. Over the last few days she had started getting up on her hands and knees, so I knew it was coming. First it was just lifting, then the rocking back and forth, and today she figured out she could scoot herself backwards. Check out this little video...

All I can think about is all the toys Patrick has that have a million little pieces and how to keep her away. Sigh...

Baptism

It was a big day for Molly, today was her baptism and she barely made a peep during the service, she just served up lots of smiles and coos.

Picture Show

We've been busy and I've been bad about updating, so here are some pictures!

From the art & wine festival that was downtown this weekend. We love being able to walk downtown but I hate it when our street turns into a slalom course because of all the cars parked here.

Patrick and I made special bug cakes for a playdate for a milestone that is probably TMI, but if you know the issue we've been struggling with you will be cheering Patrick on!

It's been a little chilly here, where's our Indian Summer? But how cute is this little one? I love being able to break out the fall clothes, nothing like a closet full of new stuff. Sigh :)

Patrick comes home from preschool every time with a blue mustache. What do you think they are feeding him?

And even more matching jammies. Can you stand all of this cuteness in one little picture?

Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'

This afternoon I put Molly down on a blanket on the floor while I put some laundry into the dryer. I came back 2 minutes later and she was on her tummy. She rolled over for the first time and I totally missed it :( I sat for a while and stared right at her but apparently she does not do tricks on command. Bummer.

Hello, Mr. Toilet

I'm not generally a superstitious person but there are some things I avoid. I hold my breath when I drive past a cemetery, I wont open an umbrella indoors, I throw a bit of salt over my shoulder if I spill it, and I don't talk about things sometimes for fear of jinxing myself. Potty training had fallen into that last category. Over the last 18 months or so we've tried all sorts of different things and Patrick really wanted nothing to do with it. He was perfectly content to wear diapers, even as his friends were starting to train. Just when I was starting to think I might have to send him off to kindergarten in diapers something finally clicked for him. He's now been wearing "big boy underwear" for over a week with no accidents. He even spent a morning at school and am afternoon with his grandma with no accidents. I AM THRILLED! And I hope that writing about this does not jinx anything! Now if we could just improve his aim....

Big Boy

Another milestone in our house! Patrick is now sleeping in a twin sized bed. This past weekend we picked up his new bedroom furniture at Costco and Patrick was thrilled with the big bed. We didn't have any bedding yet but Patrick was obsessed with the bed and so excited to have it. In fact he was so excited, he had a hard time sleeping in his crib! Tonight we finally picked up a mattress and some flannel sheets and Patrick very happily went right to sleep in his new bed. His new comforter set should arrive tomorrow, and we still need ot get the crib out of his room, but Patrick couldn't be happier. He went down so easily tonight it made me a little sad. My baby is growing up!

I'll Tumble For Ya

This morning Patrick had his first Gymnastics class through the City of Mountain View. The class is designed for 18 months - 3 years and is held at a local gymnastics place. I'm not sure who picked that age range, but apparently they think that 18 month old can follow instructions (like only go left to right on the Tumble Trak). HA! I thought the class would ne a nice outlet for Patrick's energy but I was the one who was worn out picking him up and moving him trying to get him to follow directions. I'm not so sure about this class.

In other news... I was holding Patrick upside down today and noticed he has two new teeth on the top. That brings the tooth total to 14! I did a little internet research and found out that there are his upper cuspids. I had no idea those were even coming (I guess that is what happens when you fail to buy "What To Expect: The Toddler Years"). For anyone interested, here is a baby teething chart.

All Throught The Night

Oh my goodness, it finally happened, Patrick slept through the night! He went down pretty late (was really fussy last night), and slept from about 9:30 pm until almost 8 am. I am knocking on wood, crossing my fingers and saying a prayer that this continues!

Doctor! Doctor!

Patrick had his official one year well baby visit yesterday and took his 3 shots like a little champ. Here are the official stats:

Height - 30 inches (50th percentile)
Weight - 19 pounds, 2 ounces (5th percentile!)
Head - 48.8 centimeters (above 100th percentile)

Patrick's drop in weight is most likely due to him having that stomach bug for a week (his weight had been holding steady at the 25th percentile since birth). I need to fatten him up a little before his 15 month check-up.

In other news, Patrick is now officially walking. I'm not even really sure when it happened, he's been taking tiny little steps for a while now and slowly building up the number of steps he can take at once. Yesterday he hit 38, it's like all of a sudden he can walk and I'm not even sure when it happened. Sniff, sniff :(

Happy, Happy Birthday Baby

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

It's hard to believe you are already a year old. You've grown in to a such a happy little guy and you bring everyone around you great joy. Our lives have completely changed and I am grateful for every little change you brought. You are starting to walk, today you took a record 28 steps before collapsing into the floor in a fit of giggles. You love to point at things and you expect me to bring you to whatever item you are pointing at. You have a few words in your vocabulary including dada, mama and tick tock (clock). Based on your current interests, I am guessing you would have a great career as a banana farmer, clockmaker, drummer or construction worker. When we ask you "How big is Patrick?" you respond by holding your arms high above your head and then you laugh, knowing that you've pleased us. You still don't sleep through the night but I forgive you, there's plenty of time for sleep later on. Right now I just want to enjoy every minute I can, I worry that if I blink you'll be heading off to kindergarden. Thank you for being such a wonderful addition to our lives. We love you very, very much.

Hugs and Kisses,
Mommy and Daddy

The Perfect Year

Exactly one year ago tonight I was in the hospital waiting for Patrick. I had originally been scheduled to be induced on April 9th, but the hospital had to reschedule because they were full! On April 12, I went to see the doctor in the morning and it was decided that they would induce that day as they guesstimated Patrick to be about 9 pounds (thankfully, they were wrong!). I spent the rest of the day getting my nails done and packing my hospital bag. Tom came home from work early and we went to the hospital early in the evening. I can't believe how fast the last year has flown by and that my baby boy will be 1 in just a few hours. It makes me sad to know he'll never be that tiny little baby again. I have a million pictures from the last year but it still seems like a blur.

Hair

Patrick had his first hair cut yesterday. He had some really wispy pieces on the top that were 4 or 5 inches long so he really just needed a trim to tidy everything up. We took him to President Barber Shop in Palo Alto to have it done, they were kind enough to cut it for free!

Rainy Days and Mondays

If rainy days and Mondays get me down what does a rainy Monday do? We had beautiful weather last week, it hit 70+ degrees a few days, but today was a bust. I'm still getting over my cold and I feel pretty crummy. But enough about me! Patrick is feeling fine, and I'm convinced he has spoken his first words. On three seperate occasions last week, Patrick squealed out "dada" when Tom came through the front door. No fair :(

Patrick has a new face he likes to make. He smiles this huge silly grin and squints his eyes (just like mommy does when she smiles). He's a goofy kid, but I think we'll keep him!

On My Own

I haven't been able to capture a picture of it yet, but Patrick has been starting to stand (very briefly) without support. He's also just beginning to cruise, walking while holding on to furniture. We put the coffee table in storage a few weeks ago (along with a bunch of stuff from the house in preperation for the remodel) so Patrick has resorted to cruising along in his crib. Happy Friday!

Hello

Patrick had his first spontaneous wave today! He started waving to people in the mall as we were strolling by, a few people were kind enough to wave back. Patrick's other new trick is shaking his head back and forth when I say "no". Now I think he thinks "no" is a command to shake his head and not to stop what he is doing. Oops.

In other news, Patrick had his 9 month well baby appointment yesterday. He weighed in at 18 pounds, 6 ounces (25th percentile), measured 28 inches (50th percentile) and his head was something crazy like 48 centimeters (95th percentile). All of his percentiles have remained the same since birth, he's a consistent little bugger! I'm hoping he doesn't end up a skinny, average height adult with a ginourmous head!
